Chemistry

This Year 8 Chemistry course introduces the substances, reactions and materials that make up the physical world. Haley will study elements, compounds, mixtures, physical and chemical changes, reactants, products, word equations, combustion and oxidation.

The course then progresses to acids, alkalis, indicators, the pH scale, neutralisation, metals and carbonates. Earth science topics include the structure of the Earth, rocks, the rock cycle, weathering, the atmosphere, the carbon cycle and climate change.

Lessons include demonstrations, guided explanations, practical investigations, scientific calculations and mastery questions. Projects will require Haley to test materials, record results, analyse evidence and communicate recommendations. The course supports Bohunt Year 8 science and establishes a strong foundation for GCSE Chemistry.
