Year 8 Computing supports learners as they make the important transition from block-based coding to text-based programming. Using Python, learners will write instructions, use variables, make decisions, create loops, solve problems and identify errors in programs.
Learners will also use different software applications to create, edit and repurpose digital products. Activities may include digital graphics, presentations, multimedia, app development and designing digital solutions for real users.
The computer-systems strand introduces the main components of a computer, including processors, memory, storage, input and output devices. Learners will investigate how these components work together and how computers communicate through networks.
Lessons combine teacher demonstrations, programming challenges, practical projects, debugging activities and short assessments. The course develops computational thinking, digital creativity and responsible technology use.
