This GCSE Statistics Foundation Bridge course introduces Haley to statistical ideas and examination questions normally studied beyond Year 8. Questioning is targeted mainly at GCSE grades 2–4, progressing from fluency to application, interpretation and reasoning.
The course covers types of data, populations, samples, sampling methods, bias, questionnaires, frequency tables, charts, averages, range and estimated means. Haley will also study theoretical and experimental probability, relative frequency, sample spaces, two-way tables, scatter graphs, correlation, lines of best fit, time series and comparing distributions.
Lessons include teacher modelling, guided calculations, data interpretation and GCSE-style questions. Haley will complete statistical investigations involving hypotheses, data collection, presentation, analysis and evaluation. By May, he should be secure with most grade 2–3 questions and increasingly confident with grade 4 reasoning.
